I cannot tell you the number of times over my real estate career that I have heard this statement.  While it is partially true, it is also partially wrong!  Listing your home to sell during the holiday season, when inventory is down, gives you an actual advantage!  Some things in life simply do not stop just because Thanksgiving is coming.  Job transfers still happen!!  When you’re ready or needing to sell, someone is ready and needing to buy.  Don’t allow the holiday season to make you question that the need is still out there.

Think of it like this.  Bob the buyer just received a job offer to work in Wilson.  He’s coming from Florida and needs to move quickly.  It’s the week before Thanksgiving (or Christmas, or New Year’s – pick your holiday).  Inventory is down, but your home is one of the few listed.  With fewer options, chances are, Bob the buyer will take a more serious look at your home than he would if he had more options.  Boom! Now he wrote an offer and you sold your home with fewer showings!  Pretty cool, right?

Plus, let’s be honest- isn’t it beautiful seeing people’s decorations out for the holidays?  For me, it’s a warmer, more inviting feeling.  It’s important to do what is best for yourself and your home, but I just don’t want you to mentally assume trying to sell during the holiday season is impossible, because it definitely is not!
